What VINs work
- Modern (1981+): standardized 17-character VINs decode the most fields — year, model, engine, plant, restraint system.
- Pre-1981:short VINs (5-13 chars) decode partially. We'll show what we can and note what's missing — usually engine and trim require cross-referencing the body number plate or decode tag.
